API fluid-loss test
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000155
A standardized laboratory procedure to measure the filtration rate of a drilling fluid under specific conditions of temperature and pressure. The test uses a filter press to determine the volume of filtrate collected over a 30-minute period, typically at 100 psi (690 kPa) and room temperature for water-based muds. This measurement indicates the fluid's ability to form a low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall.
