A laboratory instrument that measures static filtration of a drilling fluid by forcing a sample against filter paper in a cell under gas pressure and collecting the filtrate in a graduated cylinder. The standard API low-pressure test runs 30 minutes at 100 psi and ambient temperature, while a separate HTHP version is used at elevated temperature with 500 psi differential pressure. The test reports filtrate volume in milliliters and filter cake thickness in 32nds of an inch.
