Filtercake
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001404
A layer of solid particles deposited on a permeable rock face as the liquid phase of the drilling fluid is forced into the formation by pressure. A thin, low-permeability filtercake is desirable to limit fluid loss, stabilize the wellbore, and prevent formation damage. Its thickness and permeability are measured in a laboratory using a filter press test, with results reported in millimeters or 32nds of an inch.
