Mudcake
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002465
A layer of drilling fluid solids that deposits on the wellbore wall as filtrate invades permeable formations. This filter cake forms due to the differential pressure between the wellbore and the formation, and the filtration properties of the drilling fluid. A thin, impermeable mudcake is desirable to prevent excessive fluid loss and maintain wellbore stability.
