Filtrate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001408
The liquid component of drilling mud that invades permeable formations, leaving behind a filter cake on the borehole wall. This invasion occurs due to the pressure differential between the drilling fluid column and the formation pore pressure. The resistivity of the filtrate (Rmf) is a key parameter in formation evaluation, used to correct resistivity logs for invasion effects.
