Mud filtrate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002450
The liquid component of a drilling fluid that passes through a filter medium, such as the formation wall, leaving solid particles behind as a filter cake. This fluid invades the porous rock near the wellbore, altering the formation's original fluid content and resistivity in the invaded zone. The volume of filtrate lost to the formation is measured in a standard filter press test according to API Recommended Practice 13B.
