Fluid-loss control
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001513
The management of filtrate invasion from a drilling fluid, cement slurry, or completion fluid into a permeable formation. This is achieved by forming a low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall through the use of specialized additives like starches, polymers, or gilsonite. The standard laboratory procedure for evaluating fluid-loss control is the American Petroleum Institute (API) filter press test, which measures the volume of filtrate collected over a 30-minute period.
