Fluid-loss-control material

Any additive used in drilling fluids to reduce the amount of liquid that filters into permeable formations. These materials function by plugging pore throats or by forming a low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore face. Common examples include bentonite, starches, cellulose polymers, and synthetic resins.
