VAMA
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004490
A copolymer of Vinyl Acetate and Maleic Anhydride used as a high-temperature fluid-loss control additive in water-based drilling fluids. VAMA polymers are effective at reducing filtration into permeable formations by creating a thin, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall. They are particularly suited for deep, hot wells where other additives like starch or cellulose degrade, remaining functional at temperatures exceeding 200°C (400°F).
