SSMA
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003568
An abbreviation for styrene-sulfonate maleic anhydride copolymer, a synthetic polymer used as a deflocculant and fluid loss control agent in water-based drilling fluids. It works by dispersing clay particles and reducing the viscosity of the drilling mud, while also forming a thin, impermeable filter cake. SSMA is particularly effective in high-temperature, high-salinity conditions.
