Deflocculant

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000976

A chemical additive used in drilling fluids to reduce the attractive forces between clay particles, dispersing them into smaller, individual particles. This action lowers the fluid's viscosity and gel strength, improving its flow properties and reducing the risk of solids settling. Common deflocculants include lignosulfonates, tannins, and polyphosphates.
