Deflocculation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000979
The chemical process of dispersing clay particles in a drilling fluid by neutralizing their positive charges, which reduces the attractive forces between them. This action lowers the fluid's viscosity and gel strength, allowing for better solids removal and reduced pumping pressures. It is achieved through the addition of specific chemical agents such as lignosulfonates.
