Deflocculate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000977
To disperse aggregated clay particles within a drilling fluid by neutralizing their electrical charges, thereby reducing the fluid's viscosity and gel strength. This process allows the fluid to flow more freely and enhances its ability to release entrained gas and solids at the surface. The addition of chemicals like lignosulfonates or polyphosphates achieves deflocculation.
