Clay extender
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000689
A drilling fluid additive, typically a long-chain polymer such as polyacrylamide, that enhances the viscosity and gel strength of bentonite clay suspensions. It functions by linking individual clay platelets into a network structure, thereby reducing the amount of bentonite required to achieve desired rheological properties. These extenders are particularly effective in freshwater drilling fluids.
