Clay stabilizer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000690
A chemical additive used in drilling, completion, and stimulation fluids to prevent the swelling and migration of clay particles within reservoir formations. These chemicals, often cationic polymers or inorganic salts, inhibit the interaction of fresh water with formation clays, which can otherwise reduce permeability and damage the reservoir. Common clay stabilizers include potassium chloride and choline chloride.
