Inhibitive mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001981
A drilling fluid formulated with specific chemical additives to prevent or reduce the hydration and dispersion of reactive shales encountered during drilling. These muds typically contain salts like potassium chloride or polymers that interact with clay surfaces, stabilizing the wellbore. The degree of inhibition required depends on the reactivity of the shales being drilled.
