Lime mud
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002164
A water-based drilling fluid containing calcium hydroxide (lime) as a primary additive, used to inhibit hydration of reactive shales and control alkalinity. The lime reacts with acidic components and clay surfaces, stabilizing the wellbore. This mud system maintains a high pH, typically above 10.5, to achieve its inhibitive properties.
