Peptization
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004405
The dispersion of aggregated colloidal particles, such as bentonite clay, into a stable suspension of individual particles within a liquid. This process increases the viscosity and gel strength of a drilling fluid by maximizing the surface area of the clay platelets exposed to the liquid phase. Peptization is the opposite of flocculation, where particles clump together and settle out of the suspension.
