Peptization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008616
The process of converting a coagulated or flocculated precipitate back into a stable colloidal dispersion. This is achieved by adding an electrolyte or a peptizing agent that adsorbs onto the surface of the particles, increasing their surface charge and promoting electrostatic repulsion. The resulting colloidal system remains stable due to the balance between attractive and repulsive forces among the dispersed particles.
