Electrostatic stabilisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003795
A method of preventing the aggregation or flocculation of dispersed particles in a colloidal system by creating repulsive electrostatic forces between them. This is achieved by adsorbing charged species onto the particle surfaces or by ionizing surface groups, leading to the formation of an electrical double layer around each particle. The repulsive forces overcome attractive van der Waals forces, maintaining dispersion stability.
