Electrosteric stabilisation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003796
The stabilization of a colloidal dispersion through the combined effects of electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance. This occurs when polymer chains, often charged, are adsorbed onto the surface of dispersed particles, creating both an electrical double layer and a physical barrier. The electrostatic repulsion prevents particles from approaching too closely, while the steric layer provides an additional barrier against aggregation.
