Steric effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011391
The influence on a molecule's properties or reactivity arising from the spatial arrangement and size of its atoms or groups. These effects result from repulsive forces between electron clouds of non-bonded atoms when they are brought too close together. Steric hindrance is a common manifestation of a steric effect.
