Substituent atom
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011527
An atom that replaces a hydrogen atom or another atom in a parent molecule, forming a derivative. This atom is considered to be attached to a skeletal atom of the parent structure. Common substituent atoms include halogens, oxygen, and nitrogen, which significantly alter the chemical properties of the original compound.
