Vinylic groups

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012580

A class of groups in which a substituent is attached to one of the carbon atoms of a carbon-carbon double bond. The term describes the position of the substituent relative to the double bond, as in a vinylic halide like chloroethene. This is distinct from an allylic group, where the substituent is attached to a carbon atom adjacent to the double bond.
