Hydrocarbylidyne groups
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005458
Trivalent groups consisting only of carbon and hydrogen, obtained when one carbon of a hydrocarbon loses three hydrogen atoms and is then joined to the rest of the molecule by a triple bond. The simplest is methylidyne (≡CH), and ethylidyne (CH3C≡) is another. Hydrocarbylidene groups are the divalent analogues, attached through a double bond.
