Hydrocarbons
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005455
Organic compounds composed entirely of carbon and hydrogen atoms. They are classified into major groups based on their carbon-carbon bonding: alkanes (single bonds), alkenes (double bonds), alkynes (triple bonds), and aromatic hydrocarbons (containing one or more aromatic rings). The simplest hydrocarbon is methane (CH₄), the primary component of natural gas.
