Dienes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003158

Unsaturated hydrocarbons that contain two carbon-carbon double bonds. They are classified based on the relative location of these bonds: conjugated dienes have double bonds separated by one single bond, isolated dienes have them separated by two or more single bonds, and cumulated dienes have adjacent double bonds. The conjugated diene 1,3-butadiene is a key monomer in the production of synthetic rubber.
