Aliphatic compounds

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000388

Carbon compounds without aromatic character, whether open-chain or ringed, fully saturated or containing double or triple bonds, including alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, cycloalkanes and their substituted derivatives. Conjugated dienes such as buta-1,3-diene count as aliphatic, since aromatic stabilisation, a closed ring of delocalised electrons obeying the 4n+2 rule, is absent.
