Arenols
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000779
A class of organic compounds characterized by a hydroxyl group directly attached to a carbon atom of an aromatic ring system. These compounds are also known as phenols, a more common trivial name for the simplest member of this class, benzenol. The presence of the aromatic ring significantly influences the acidity and reactivity of the hydroxyl group compared to aliphatic alcohols.
