Phenols
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008755
Organic compounds characterized by a hydroxyl group directly attached to an aromatic hydrocarbon ring. The simplest member of this class is phenol itself, C6H5OH. These compounds exhibit acidic properties due to the resonance stabilization of the phenoxide ion and are widely used as intermediates in the synthesis of polymers, pharmaceuticals, and dyes.
