Phenoxides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008761
Anions formed by the deprotonation of a phenol, where the hydroxyl proton is removed, leaving a negatively charged oxygen atom directly bonded to an aromatic ring. These species are resonance-stabilized due to the delocalization of the negative charge into the aromatic system. Phenoxides are generally stronger nucleophiles and bases than their parent phenols.
