Alkoxides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000398
Anions derived from alcohols by the removal of the hydroxyl proton, having the general formula RO-, where R is an alkyl group. These compounds are strong bases and nucleophiles, often used in organic synthesis as reagents for deprotonation or nucleophilic substitution reactions. Sodium ethoxide (CH3CH2O-Na+) is a common example.
