Nucleophile
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013350
A chemical species that donates an electron pair to an electrophile to form a chemical bond. Nucleophiles are Lewis bases and are characterized by having a lone pair of electrons or a π bond. Common examples include anions like hydroxide (OH-) and neutral molecules such as water (H2O) or ammonia (NH3).
