Electrophile

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003778

A chemical species that is attracted to electron-rich centers and accepts an electron pair to form a new covalent bond. These species are typically positively charged or possess an incomplete octet of electrons, acting as Lewis acids in chemical reactions. Common electrophiles include carbocations, carbonyl carbons, and nitronium ions.
