Catalysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001704
The process by which the rate of a chemical reaction is increased by the participation of a substance, known as a catalyst, which is not consumed in the overall reaction. Catalysis proceeds through an alternative reaction pathway with a lower activation energy. Catalysts can be homogeneous, existing in the same phase as the reactants, or heterogeneous, existing in a different phase.
