Intramolecular catalysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006013

The acceleration of a chemical reaction due to the presence of a catalytic group within the same molecule as the reacting center. This effect often leads to significantly increased reaction rates compared to intermolecular catalysis, due to favorable proximity and orientation of the catalytic group. It is a common feature in enzyme-catalyzed reactions.
