Functional group
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004712
A specific group of atoms within a molecule that is responsible for the characteristic chemical reactions of that molecule. These groups determine the chemical properties and reactivity of organic compounds. Examples include hydroxyl (-OH), carbonyl (C=O), and amino (-NH2) groups, each imparting distinct chemical behavior.
