Phosphoramides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013390

A class of compounds containing a phosphorus-nitrogen bond, formally derived from a phosphoric or phosphonic acid by the replacement of one or more hydroxyl groups with an amino or substituted amino group. They have the general structure R₂P(=O)NR'₂, where R and R' can be hydrogen, alkyl, or aryl groups. Hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA) is a well-known example used as a polar aprotic solvent.
