Phosphonous acids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008784
Compounds of the form R-P(OH)2, derived from the parent HP(OH)2, in which a trivalent phosphorus atom bears one organic group and two hydroxyl groups. They exist mainly as the tautomeric H-phosphinic acids, R-P(=O)(H)OH, which have a P-H bond and are monobasic, and they are readily oxidized to phosphonic acids, RP(=O)(OH)2.
