Reductones
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013491
Organic compounds containing an enediol group (-C(OH)=C(OH)-) adjacent to a carbonyl group, which allows them to act as strong reducing agents. These compounds are characterized by their ability to reduce other substances while being oxidized themselves. Ascorbic acid, or Vitamin C, is a well-known reductone.
