Carboxylic acids

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012947

Organic compounds characterized by a carboxyl group, which consists of a carbonyl group (C=O) and a hydroxyl group (-OH) attached to the same carbon atom. This functional group imparts acidic properties to the molecule, allowing it to donate a proton. They are widely found in nature, such as acetic acid in vinegar and citric acid in fruits.
