Peroxy acids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008680
Compounds in which the acidic hydroxyl group of an acid, usually a carboxylic acid, is exchanged for a hydroperoxy group, -OOH, as in peracetic acid, CH3C(=O)OOH. Peroxycarboxylic acids such as meta-chloroperoxybenzoic acid are strong oxygen-transfer reagents that epoxidize alkenes and convert ketones to esters in the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation.
