Aldonic acids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000376
Carboxylic acids derived from aldoses through the oxidation of the aldehyde group to a carboxyl group, while the hydroxyl groups remain unchanged. These compounds are polyhydroxylated monocarboxylic acids. They are typically named by replacing the "-ose" suffix of the parent aldose with "-onic acid," such as gluconic acid from glucose.
