Uronic acids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012471
A class of sugar acids containing both a carboxyl group and an aldehyde group. They are formally derived from aldoses by the selective oxidation of the terminal primary alcohol group to a carboxylic acid, while the aldehyde group at carbon-1 remains unchanged. For example, glucuronic acid is derived from glucose and is a component of many natural polysaccharides, including chondroitin sulfate and dermatan sulfate.
