Uronium salts

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012472

Cations formed by protonating urea on oxygen, which gives a carbon bearing one hydroxyl and two amino groups and a positive charge, together with their O- and N-hydrocarbyl derivatives, and the salts of these cations. The name is also applied to coupling reagents such as HBTU and TBTU, which carry an O-substituted tetramethylurea cation. These reagents convert carboxylic acids into active benzotriazolyl esters for amide bond formation in peptide synthesis.
