Azinic acids

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001050

Derivatives of the parent H2N+(O-)OH, the best-known members being the nitronic acids R2C=N+(O-)OH, also called aci-nitro compounds, which are the minor tautomers of nitroalkanes R2CH-NO2. Their conjugate bases, the nitronate salts, form when a nitroalkane with an alpha hydrogen is treated with base. The nitro form is far more stable, so the aci form is usually seen only transiently or as its salts.
