Nitrolic acids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007966
Compounds of general structure R-C(=NOH)NO2, which are alpha-nitro oximes, formed when a primary nitroalkane is treated with nitrous acid and two alpha hydrogens are replaced by the oxime function. They tautomerize with the nitroso form R-CH(NO)NO2. In alkali they give red salts, the basis of the Victor Meyer test that identifies primary nitroalkanes.
