Xanthic acids
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012734
Organic compounds with the general formula ROC(=S)SH, where R is an organic group. These are sulfur analogs of carbonic acid monoesters, featuring a carbon-sulfur double bond and a thiol group. Xanthic acids are unstable and readily decompose, but their salts and esters, known as xanthates, are more stable and find use in flotation processes.
