Xanthene dyes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012733
A class of organic dyes characterized by a xanthene ring system, which consists of a tricyclic structure with an oxygen atom bridging two benzene rings. These compounds are known for their intense fluorescence and strong absorption in the visible light spectrum. Examples include fluorescein and rhodamine B, widely used as biological stains and laser dyes.
