Nucleus
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008147
The positively charged central core of an atom, composed of protons and neutrons, that contains nearly all of its mass. The properties of the nucleus, such as its composition, size, and energy states, are the basis for nuclear analytical chemistry techniques. The number of protons determines the chemical element, while the total number of protons and neutrons defines the specific nuclide.
